Taking in a 14 year old boy
Hi everyone. In short, my husband (21) and I (23) have taken in my husbands 14 year old male cousin due to his mom being involved in a Child Welfare case for meth use, DV, and just neglect. My husbands cousin wanted to leave the situation and he wanted to live with us, so of course I couldn’t say no. The case was just opened, so it’s perfect timing because now we have rights to having him through the state because of the removal. Of course, we’re now going to have to become certified foster parents and take the classes, but that doesn’t teach you everything you need.
With all this being said, can you all give me tips and just tell me stories about raising a 14 year old? He’s an awesome kid, and is very well mannered, so I don’t have to worry about him acting out. I’m making him as comfortable as we can, and took him to buy new shoes and clothes. I don’t want to make him feel like a burden or overwhelmed, so I just need some encouraging words.
Thank you for anyone who replies and read this!
