I think it varies a lot kid to kid. Some kids aren't trained to hold it all night until like she 5, and from what I've read that's super normal. My daughter was potty trained at 18 months and has been in regular underwear at night since probably about 20 months, she still wets the bed occasionally but it's usually because she had too much water too close to bedtime and didn't go potty after drinking it. She was having a lot of accidents a couple months ago when she had a cold so we were letting her bring water to bed with her. 
If your kid is dry consistently, go ahead and try going to undies. Just be sure to have some kind of mattress protector (and a backup for when you change the sheets)!

Been consistently dry for a couple months now overnight. Only accidents at night are from too much water and its rare. Now my son monitors his water intake before bed because he hates waking up wet.
