11 Month old + discipline help

My baby girl has been so sweet and everything until recently. I’m a stay at home mom and have been since she was born. When she first started acting out, hitting me & being aggressive it was around 8/9 months and that’s when I started saying “No Maliyah, don’t hit mama” and she wouldn’t cry or anything and recently when she hits me I tap her hand and say “No Maliyah we don’t hit!” And she’ll cry and make a mean face and want to hit back. I did read and see mixed opinions about tapping their hand and people were saying it sends mixed signals to them so I’m looking for other methods/ways of talking.

I’m a first time mom, and I’m tired of reading blogs so I’d love to get other advice on the situation & how to discipline her.
