MILSO advice

So my SO is planning on enlisting in the marines, we plan on getting married before he leaves so that when he gets his first post I can join him with our two pups. My mother is an Army vet so I’ve already lived the military lifestyle all my life and basically know how it goes. I was 99.9% positive that BAH allows to you to get an actual house off base if you so choose at the governments expense (because that’s what my mom and I did for years instead of being on-base...BAH covered rent for 3(?) moves, an apt and 2 houses). Instead of listening to me because ya know god forbid we listen to someone who lived it, he’s trying to tell me that we can’t get an actual house, we’re forced to rent an apartment, we HAVE to live on-base, etc. Now with that doubt in my mind (and insane irritation) is he right? Or is he completely wrong?

Oh and to add; he thinks we’d be moving every year from station to station even though I tried to tell him otherwise. “What he reads on the internet must be the truth” 🙄
