Are all landlords scum!?

Tell me why I can't get an apartment when I apply for units that are well within my budget, I have 2 sources of guaranteed income (my partner is a full time grocery worker and I'm on Ontario works while I stay home to raise my son) we both have good credit (750+) and no criminal record and we have references to vouch for us. We would be great tenants but it's been 9 months of applying and we still have not been excepted! And I don't like to judge others but when we have gone to group viewings we were the best put together, the other people coming to the viewings were older adults (we are in our early 20's with a 2 year old son) who either showed up late, unprepared without applications, were fighting with the person they came with or asking where the closest liquor store was to the apartment. Those where all real examples of the other people we saw applying for the same places we did and I guess that behavior is more professional then the young couple looking to get out of their parents homes and be together and independent. I've given up hope, we have everything we need to get our own place yet no landlord wants us because we are not students or seniors or working professionals which is what most ads say now (which is discrimination against families in Ontario law). Because of this i have to stay with extended family and be apart from my partner, Im getting sick of my family telling me how I should be raising my son, I need my own space because right now I have to be in their kitchen and living room so I can't escape, I'm doing everything I can to get my own place but landlords are not excepting us and I'm losing my mind now. What else can I do to make it clear I need to have my own place or my relationships with my family is going to be ruined.

Yet I do pay rent to live at my family's. I try my best to stay out of every es space but I have a toddler who needs to be able to run around and I can't keep him in one room all day.
