Is the home baby Doppler harmful to the baby?

Just out of curiosity, is the portable fetal Doppler Sonoline B harmful to the baby at all? Is it okay to be checking baby’s heartbeat everyday?

I just came back from my 2nd ultrasound asked my obgyn about the portable home baby Doppler. She said it’s completely safe to use and not harmful at all to the baby! She said there’s no radiation and just sound waves. She didn’t even say use in moderation and said it’s safe to use anytime in pregnancy! No limitations.

Most things are okay in moderation. From what I’ve heard, at home Dopplers are okay to use every other day for about 5 minutes. I wouldn’t do it everyday and if you can go even once or twice a week, that’d be best. Enjoy hearing your little one ❤️

My understanding is they aren’t recommended not because they aren’t safe, but because heart rate isn’t the only indication of baby’s health. So if a pregnant person is having reduced movements, uses a home Doppler and gets a strong heart beat they may assume all is well and not head in to get a proper check.

A lot of people have their own opinions on it being harmful and others thinking it’s not. Honestly from week 12-15/16 I used it everyday just because I couldn’t feel him move yet. Currently 21w and anatomy scan came back good also got the NIPT test at like 18w and everything came back great!

There are studies showing use is harmful. My midwife said stay far away from one. My dr uses one at every appointment of course but even he don’t like them. He leaves it on for like 7 seconds.
