Best formula?

Question

I have to use formula to supplement breastfeeding because I’m not producing enough milk :( what is the best formula? I’m so lost. The pediatrician gave me some to get by and they’re pre-made bottles which is convenient but I’m open to anything. I just want to make sure it’s the best I can provide since I’m sad to have to use it in the first place.

Please don’t be sad. With my son, I wasn’t making enough, at all! I gave him Enfamil ready to use nursette bottles (those small liquid ready to feed ones your doc suggested). Enfamil and Similac are very popular brands that date way back so both are good choices. The ready to use bottles are super convenient. You can carry them with you anywhere you go, and just pop one open when you need one. By the way, my son is now 3.5 and he’s tall, thin, super healthy and extremely smart (he reads and loves children’s physics books) so don’t let all those comments about how much smarter and healthier breastfed babies are get you down. It’s DEFINITELY not always true at all.

Don’t be sad you are using formula. I never gave my children breastmilk and they are amazing and healthy children. It hurts when people act like it’s a bad thing to use formula. You will still have a happy baby with a love for you.

We have to supplement with formula because of a reaction i have to breastfeeding/pumping. Our doctor told us to just start out with the basic straigh forward type with no fancy extras and see how baby handles that. If she had any issues, then we could try a different formula. We’ve been using basic similac and that’s working fine.

Don’t feel bad at all! You do what ever you need to feed your baby! Couldn’t agree more with the other commenter. We had to start supplementing with formula around 4 months and fully switch by 6. I couldn’t keep up my supply when I went back to work. We tried a couple different kinds and gerber gentle worked best for her. But, similac and enfamil are great. It may take a couple tries to see what kind agrees best with your baby.
