Am I wasting my time trying to potty train my 16 month old son?

I bought the potty 3 days ago and the first time I sat him on it he went pee (it took about 10 minutes) yesterday he peed in it about half the time I sat him on there.

Well today he’s only had 1 wet/poop diaper and he’s went pee on the potty 7 times. Whenever I sit him on there he’ll go right away now if he has to go & sometimes right after I take off his diaper he will go (when I’m about to sit him on the potty) He never cries or fusses to get off. It’s like he knows to wait until I sit him on the potty to go pee, He will even try to sit down when I take off his diaper.

The reason I bought it is because he kept taking off his diaper.

The thing is people are telling me that there’s no way you can potty train a 16 month old and that he’s too young. Should I wait until he’s older?
