Genital cold sores

Okay so about October last year I was on an acne medication and it gave me a huge breakout of cold sores all over my lips ( this had never happened before) it was horrible and awful and ever since then I get one or two on my lips once a month or every other month. Around a week ago I suspected one coming on on my lip and then completely forgot about it. I was staying with my partner and he kissed me then went down on me. Now I have cold sores on my genitals. (He knows I have this). This does mean I have type 1 herepes right not type 2? Because it was not sexually transmitted he did not give it to me. Also any tips to help because it’s really sore and itchy
