One year birth control?

I’m on Nexplanon (the implant) and despite some weight gain and a weird period, I’m very happy with it. I especially enjoy that fact that I don’t have to worry about it at all.

However, my husband and I don’t want to start trying until a year after my implant expires, and he _really_ does not want a pregnancy earlier. I really don’t want to take the pill and I shouldn’t take any method with estrogen, so we were thinking just using condoms for a year, but again… I don’t like having to remember something. Any suggestions? Give me the pros & cons of your method!
