Which surname goes first? Mom’s or dad’s

I wanted our baby to have both last names
Which last name goes first mine or his? 
I put mine first and my family told me it was supposed to be the other way around

I would put mine first. I don’t think there is a specific way of doing it. I’d also consider which way sounds best.

I honestly don’t know but my husband has both of his parents last name. His father’s is first and his mother’s is second. Whenever he fills out paperwork or something they refer to his mothers last name as being the official last name because it’s last.

My son only has one last name (we’re married) but a friend of mine double-barrelled her boys last name. Dad’s was first and mum’s last. 
Just a warning: her son’s name often gets shortened to just using one surname and it’s the last (mums). I don’t know if it’s a common thing to do(?) but it might mean your surname isn’t used a lot with it being first.

My mom's last name is my second middle name and then my last name was my dad's which is an option as well.
