Am I coddling my 1 year old?

My LO is almost 1. He is not a super needy baby, but sometimes he is very clingy and wants me to hold him and nurse him all of the time. My husband says that I am coddling him and making him a spoiled baby. Not in a mean way. I have always heard that you can’t spoil a baby, but when they get older it changes.

And it’s not like he’s like that all of the time. He just gets in these moods where he’s not happy until I break out the carrier and carry him with me while I do things. After about half an hour or so he’ll play on the floor just fine by himself for awhile. My husband and mother in law say to let him cry for awhile until he figures it out and goes to play, which he does after a little bit. Should I be letting him figure it out himself and let him be more independent? I don’t want to make him a clingy and spoiled toddler, but I also like to make sure that he knows I’m there for him. Any thoughts?
