To teach or not to teach
I'm a teacher in Texas and trying to figure out maternity leave and what works best for my situation, looking for your advice! Especially if you are a teacher. I'm unsure if I will want to return to work after maternity leave. In most jobs this would be something I could decide while on leave, but as a teacher I'm under contract. My husband travels for work and we don't have any family nearby, I just can't imagine teaching full time in that situation, especially because my job requires a lot of evening performances. My baby is due mid November. I'm worried about getting a bad rep for not returning after my leave. It's only unpaid FMLA and I use my husband's insurance, so it's not like the district is doing me any favors that I'd be taking advantage of. I'm just concerned that breaking a contract would prohibit me from finding a job in the future. I'll be at a new school in the same district, and part of me wonders if I shouldn't sign me contract for next year and just stay at home during the third trimester. However, the extra 3 months of a paycheck would be extremely helpful! I know this is long, it's hard for me to find people in real life to discuss this.
