Baby waking up at night for an hour +

Sometimes my son will wake up around 3am for 1-2 hours. My husband doesn’t want to do sleep training and my son will not nurse or rock back to sleep when he is up for these long chunks. He is dead awake and cries if I put him back in his crib. Has anyone else had this happen? It happens like 3 times a week.

He goes to bed between 7:15-7:45. Wakes up around 11 to eat. Awake for 1-2 hours at 3am. Wakes for good around 7am. Naps 2-3 hours a day (2 naps). My son is 8 months old.
