What’s the emotional/mental difference between having p in v sex and doing basically everything but?

My boyfriend and I have done almost everything. We make out, dry hump, give hand jobs and go down on each other etc. but he’s never put his penis in my vagina. I’m afraid to but at the same time I’m ready...I’m still a virgin.

I’m obviously scared of pregnancy but I always hear so much about how sex is so intimate and it creates a connection and people make it out to be such a big deal...so why is p in v sex such a “big deal” but giving a handjob or dry humping isn’t as huge?

What’s the emotional difference there?

I also understand that many people consider sex as more than just penis in vagina, but that’s all that I consider sex to be.
