Serioisly curious? Social Media Likes

How is something just a 'like' on social media to some of you people. Imagine your SO instead of liking sexy girls was liking racist posts all the time or liking animals being hurt. Is it still just a 'like'?

To me there is no such thing as mindless liking something. Either I pushed the button intentionally or I didn't.

It's just a "check mark" on a piece of paper when you vote for a new president yet that little mark counts as your vote as to who will run the country. Or if you take anti depressants it's just a tiny little pill yet it can change your whole day.

Why does the quote on quote the smallness of the gesture diminish what the gesture represents?

Update: okay, admittedly my first examples are more on the extreme side.

However, I still stand by my point. Say for example your cousin talks shit about you on facebook and bullys you and your other family members like it. Are those just likes?

Or if a trusted friend in your life posts one of your deepest secrets should you just forget about it and move on cuz it's just Facebook and none of that stuff matters anyway? Like it's still real life even if it's over internet waves.
