Doubles on Amazon registry

So I just got an early gift from friends who can’t make our shower and one of the gifts is something we’ve already received from my Amazon registry but not yet opened. I have to return it by June 1st which is before our shower but I feel bad if I return it and my friend gets a notification. Will she see that it’s been returned? Should I just tell her and return it or see if I can resell it later or something? Not sure what’s appropriate in these situations.
