Would you date an ex drug addict who has only been recovering for 1-2 months?

Everyone judged me when I got with my boyfriend because he’s an ex drug addict. When I met him he was only off them for about a month or so. Everyone told me he would relapse and I was dumb for getting with him. 2 years later we’re happy together and he hasn’t touched drugs since. I’m proud of him and he proved everyone wrong

No. Not only for my mental health but theirs as well. Recovery is a very delicate and hard road for addicts. Their first priority needs to be staying clean. Not on a relationship. Theres so many other aspects of recovery other than nit having a drink, like mental health wise that they need to go through and heal from before going into a relationship. 
They need to go through that alone and be good on their own so that they dont learn to rely on you to stay sober. Dating a recovering alcoholic when they’ve only been clean a month means theres a good chance they will stay on track because of you rather than for themselves. Meaning they’ll associate you with sobriety and if you ever leave there chance of relapse is higher. They tell people in AA not to date that first year for a reason.

Honestly I wouldn’t but not because he used to do drugs but because he is so freshly sober. He would need to focus on himself and staying sober for at least a year before starting a new relationship. There are cases where it does work out like yours but if it was meant to be it will still be there after he’s been sober longer

No, for their sake. There are reasons they tell them in AA not to date for the first year of recovery.

No. My sister was addicted to meth for a really long time. She's clean now, though. But I just couldn't date someone that early in their recovery because it was hard enough when my sister was at that stage, nevermind how much harder it must be to be in a relationship with someone who is so early into recovery.

No. That’s extremely soon. I would still talk to him and be open for the future. But not that soon. As someone else mentioned, it’s not really advised for newly sober people to date.

I'm glad it worked out for you but you are the exception, not the rule. It's important to remember that for every relationship that makes it there are many, many more that didn't, when faced with those same challenges.

Nope. Not if it was only a month or two. You need to wait longer to make sure they are gonna stay off drugs

I guess it would depend on the situation, but if thats the only thing I knew, then no I would not. 
Everybody recovers differently, but generally there is too much healing and self discovery that needs to take place in the first year or two of recovery to have it clouded by a relationship. I just doesn’t seem like the smartest move to me to truly heal and stick with it.

I'm happy for you guys that it worked out! Personally I wouldn't date an addict who hadn't been sober very long. 
I once tried to date a recovering alcoholic who was 3 months sober and that was... quite the time. A TON of drama happened with that (no one's fault really, just a shitty situation). But in the future I would definitely wait until someone is more stable in their recovery!
