Baby covering ears?

Question

My 14 month old randomly covers her ears when excited or when she’s upset/overstimulated. I haven’t correlated it to very loud noises or anything. 
Anyone’s baby do this or did this? I keep reading that it’s a red flag for autism and now idk if I’m overreacting or not.

I feel like it’s fairly easy for young babies/toddlers to get overstimulated and they go through lots of phases. I would just keep an eye on it and any other behavior that might seem is a struggle with sensory and mention to her pediatrician.

It could just be a phase. A lot of autism signs are things all babies do momentarily. My daughter discovered that she could block some sound out via her ears around 12 months and thought it was interesting for a bit. She didn’t do it terribly often, but I did fear for a hot minute if it was a sign. She’s not much of a cuddler— even when upset — so I’ve always been on alert with her. But she’s 18 months now and shows no signs of autism. And she goes through phases of being cuddly in her own ways. Eg. Now she can climb onto the couch by herself. She plops herself beside me and wraps and arm around mine. 💕
