My dog cut himself on some thing

I don’t really think this is TMI, but then some people might I decided to post it as such. My dog cut his ball on some things so now he has like a red scar on it. We’re not sure when it happened but we’re assuming it happened sometime yesterday when we were having a puppy play date. Should I take him to the vet? Or should I just clean the wound and apply ointment? His skin is pink so his balls are always this color it’s just the red cut that makes us concerned.
