Would you use a name similar to or the same of someone else in your family?

If someone in your family or a close friend has or has used your favorite name, would you still use it??

Depends.
If it’s a cousin I’m not close to or an old friend I’m not close to anymore, I might do a similar name.
But a sibling, niece, nephew or really close friend I never would use a name even close to theirs.

My cousins son is Oliver and my daughter is Olive. We see them a couple of times a year but nothing concerning to me!

I literally have cousins with the same name. Granted they don’t live in the same province as each other.
I have 2 cousins named Connor and 2 named Ryan (one boy, one girl).

I’m naming my son Hunter Avery and my cousin has a son named Hunter and a daughter named Avery. I don’t care though bc we never see them and it’s just a name. They don’t own it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My sister named her last baby arabella and calls her Bella. If I have a girl her middle name will be belle. Mostly because I just don’t care what my sister thinks. I avoid her as much as possible. Also because we picked that name before we even knew she was pregnant and it is different. I also won’t be telling my sister the name which is also because I try not to talk to her and I am not friends with her on social media. 
I do like a name that my best friend wants to use one day. Even though it isn’t likely that she’ll have another kid, I’d never use the name. 
I think it really depends on the relationship you have with the family member or friend.

I’m in that boat right now. My cousins wife just had a baby that they named Elizabeth Sofia. They didn’t really tell anyone their names until the baby was born last month. I’m due in a few weeks and our baby will be Eliana and we were thinking of Sofia as a middle name as well (our mutual paternal grandmother is named Zofia and my maternal great grandmother was also Zofia). We liked the name and had wanted to honor my grandma and I guess they were thinking the same 😆😆😆.
But now Elizabeth Sofia and Eliana Sofia sounds too close. They can both be nicknamed Ellie. I had considered going with the traditional Polish spelling of Zofia but in English the pronunciation would be the same as Sofia. So I’m in a pickle! My cousins do live in Denver and we only see them every couple of years but the babies will be just a few months apart. Still not sure about it. My first choice for a middle name was Celina but my husband is resistant. We had settled in Sofia after many discussions so now baby has no middle name until we make the decision.

My husband and I have always loved the name Cruz since it has meaning to us. But my brother in law ended up naming his son Cruz almost 7 years ago. He didn’t know we loved the name what so ever (he lives across the country, and my husband and I were still very young). When our son was born 16 months ago we made Cruz his middle name, and it’s actually perfect. My brother in law didn’t care at all.
