Tell in person or through messages?

I’ve been chatting with this guy, “R”, for about two years now. Nothing heavy, just casual heys, how are you, with hints of him being interested in me. Because of the distance between us I would just brush off those advances. I was diagnosed with HSV2 about a year ago. I’ve only had to tell one other person about it and luckily he didn’t have a problem with it. Recently I’ve been engaging more with “R” because that distance will be decreasing soon but I still don’t want him or I to get too comfortable because he doesn’t know my situation yet...I feel like it’s best to have this conversation in person but that opportunity wouldn’t arise for months. What do y’all think I should do?
