Are East Asians people of color?

J

So I am Korean. I consider myself a poc but some people have told me that I'm not because Asians are white skinned. I always try to correct them. South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis, etc) are brown. Southeast Asians (Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) are tan/brown. Not all Asians are from the east. East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) are more whiter skinned than our counterparts but even then not really. For a long time white skin in East Asia is considered a beauty standard. Our body products automatically contain skin bleaching contents. Women use umbrellas to avoid the sun. Teens use filters to brighten their skin in their selfies. Even with kpop celebrities, if you think they are that white they're not. In Asia you usually don't use foundation that matches but instead, you use foundation that is 3 to 5 shades lighter. If you toured East Asian countries, then you would see that we are actually very brown normally. Some people say we are poc and some say we are not. I'm very confused 🤔
