Hair Disaster!

So, I bought one of those hair stripper kits as seen in the picture I’ve attached. My hair was a dark brown colour (almost black). After the development time of the colour stripper, my hair was ORANGE.. And I mean orange. Also, it didn’t get all of my hair.. Like I still had a few bits of the dark brown in my hair. Luckily I had another box dye and dyed it back dark brown, it looks perfect. Was it supposed to end up orange? Do you have to dye over it after stripping it?
