Has anyone been a Living donor??

Question

Has anyone been a living donor and what was your experience of it? I want to help this family member sooo bad but I’m so scared of the risk (especially long term health) but I feel like that makes me selfish to think about. Idk what to do. Any advice would help thank you!

If you already have kidney issues and are looking to possibly donate one of them my advice to you would be not to.
As kind a gesture as it is, and it really is truly...it can cost you your mobility and ultimately your life. 
Operating with one kidney even in the best of circumstances is very difficult. There are lifelong limitations and restrictions that you will be placed on. It can dictate things like your course of work, your ability to have a family, your ability to be active and so on. That's in the best of circumstances....in the worst you can end up on painful lifelong dialysis treatments and have a good 2 decades sheared off your life. 
You are 21. You are young. You have your whole life ahead of you....but there will be a day when you are of a certain age and time runs short. Do you really want to cash in the last if your 20 years? Leave your husband and children? Grandchildren?
Think long and hard about this one.

If you can save their life... is it worth the risks? I offered my sister my Kidney but luckily they where able to fix it with surgery (she was only born with one, hereditary thing) I wouldn’t have thought twice. I also wouldn’t have looked up the risks and scared myself either
