Extremely sleepy newborn

Is it normal to have an extremely sleepy newborn baby? Even at day 13?

We thought the sleepiness would last for only a week. Unfortunately its 13 days today and the sleepiness did not improve at all. She spends 5-10 mins awake with open eyes only after i wake her up for feeds.

This waking up is a huge ordeal. Change nappy, strip her off, wt clothes to her forehead and feet, tickling, tickling under jaw, lying her on flat surface. All of these will keep her awake for just 2-3 mins. She’ll fall asleep as soon as she latches on my breast. So I need to repeat all of it every few mins during a feed time. As a result it takes 1-2 hours to finish one feed, and its time for the next feed, leaving no time for me to sleep/ do my own work!!

I try to replace 1-2 feeds/day with bottle (EBM or formula) hoping it would be a quicker way to keep her feeds up. Same issue, she wont suck when she is not awake. When awake (after a great deal of effort to wake her up) she would be very upset with slow flow teats and fall asleep while sucking. She prefers high flow ones, which was used when she was in hospital nursery. However she gags few times with the high flow ones and becomes windy afterwards, hence I avoid high flow ones.

When sucking: she sucks 5-8 times and then pauses for a few seconds. If awake, she starts sucking a gain after the pause, or she’ll fall asleep

Born at 39+1/40

Birth wt 3140g

Wt at day 4 & 6: 3070g

Apgar 9

Strong sucking n latching straight after birth, sucked for 30mins at a stretch soon after birth. But after that i couldn’t get her awake to suck for 30 mins anymore, not till now!

Good number of wet nappies and 4/5 poos a day

Seen by paediatrician twice at the hospital due to day3 mild ABO incompatibility jaundice. Jaundice improved from day 4-5. Paediatrician and midwives were not concerned! Her neuro exam was fine as per my paediatrician

I haven’t handled many newborns in my life. She is the first bub in my extended family so I dunno if this sleepiness is normal or not. Hubby thinks i am anxious and its normal to be sleepy for a few weeks. He’s not a doctor so I am not reassured!
