Should I quit my Job? (Read Description)

Question

Background: I work full time for Child Protective Services. It’s exhausting and I’ve been unhappy in the job for quite some time, but it pays well and has good benefits. 
I have 2 kids- 5 and 10 months. I hate being away from them, but also want to provide for them and show them that working hard is necessary. 
My mom just got diagnosed with breast cancer for the 2nd time. She got a double mastectomy, but the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and now she has to go for treatment for at least one year. 
My mom owns a bar. My mom also has guardianship over my 7 year old niece. My stepdad is going to be taking care of my mom for treatment, etc. so they need help with their business and my niece. They have friends willing to help, but they’re short staffed and their business is crazy busy and my mom won’t be able to be there.
The idea is for me to quit my full time job and help my mom run her business/take care of my niece/ help with her cancer treatment. I think I’d make just as much financially at the bar (if not more.) Id be losing my benefits, though. We can transition to my husbands insurance, but he’s hesitant about my retirement. My thoughts are that my degree will always be there and I can go back to a full time position in the future (if I ever want to.) 
Thoughts??? Lots going on!

First, it is commendable of you to consider this as it is allot to ask of you.
Second, are sure that you would be spending less time working at the bar then you would be if you stayed at CPS?  Bar owners tend to work long hours and have to pitch in if staff calls out.  Most importantly, if the hours are longer are you ok with it?  There is no right or wrong answer, just be honest with yourself.
Third, to your husband’s point about retirement, since you project you will be making more money at the bar then you should have enough to put money into a retirement plan.  However, if you do not since you plan on doing this for only a year then your retirement should not take that much of a hit.  Especially if you are able to re-enter the job market at your current salary.
Instead of quitting, is it possible for you to take a one-year sabbatical?

Personally, I'd quit. Being in a job you hate isn't good for you or your kids. And supporting your mom while she goes through this is also important as a family. The retirement will still be there. You can hop back on retirement later or put it in something else later. Just make time for yourself and kids etc.

I personally think you’ll be working more hours at the bar... which is not good for what you want based on what you have described. 
But, it is your moms business and she can’t take care of it (for obvious reasons) so I think I would do it if no one else can. 
You can save the extra money you’d be making on a savings account since you won’t be putting into your retirement account. 
I don’t understand about teaching your kids about working. You will be working. And probably harder so they’ll still learn that concept
