Are breaks real?

Question

If someone says they want a break, is that the end of the relationship for you or are you taking the break?
If it depends on the situation, comment!!

A break is a real thing to some; it just doesn't make any sense. It actually means:
1. I want to end the relationship but am not adult enough to say it straight out
2. We have problems that neither of us are mature enough to try to fix, so we'll have a break and hope they solve themselves
3. We actually should no longer be together but I don't want to accept this so I'll say let's have a break

Few years back my boyfriend said that he wants a break for me Cz Our relationship is getting too much clingy 
And guess what !  He ended up cheating on me !!!!!!!

I would never take a break. If they want a break then we shouldn't ever get back together. If it's because there's problems in the relationship then running away won't help. You need to work on it together and wanting a break shows that you don't want to put the work into the relationship. 
If you want a break so you can "find yourself" then you should still break up imo. I never need to "find myself" when I'm in my relationship. Yeah having some time to myself but that's different than just ghosting each other for a few weeks

I say I need a break from my husband, but we live together and he’s been out of work because of the pandemic. Thank goodness he’s working now because I was ready to divorce him (not really, he just gets worst than the kids at times 🤣). But if someone means an actual break, like as in I don’t want to see you, talk to you or anything, I look at that as a breakup. I wouldn’t be with someone that wants a “break” all the time. Having time alone is different. You’re still talking and seeing each other, just not as much.

I believe in a break in sense of staying together but lets say taking a girl trip for one week so that you take a mental break and maybe get a chance to miss your partner. If the break implies to not beeing together its just an excuse.

My BF and myself have been having problems for while in our relationship. And in October I said maybe we should just take a break for him to evaluate what he wants in our relationship. An I whole heartily meant that. I wasn’t looking to sleep with anyone else or anything. We have been together for 13 years and have 3 kids. I don’t know if we’re just together because we’ve been together for long or if it’s because of the kids. 
We never took a break and our relationship has gotten worse, because of Corona. 
But when I said it I literally wanted a break for him to evaluate us.

A break can be a good thing if its done for the right reasons and the right way. Some time apart to reevaluate things can be beneficial. But usually for the most part, its used as an excuse to play the field so to speak, sleep with someone else, see if the grass really is greener ...
