Will she ever sleep at night or am I just failing

Question

Ugh. I'm so frustrated you guys. I'm exhausted. Its 315 am. And she is still awake. Still. Since 930 pm. Every time I get her settled enough to fall asleep she either starts pooping, which wakes her, or she just gets fussy and starts crying. I currently have her in her swing. But that won't last long. My night routine with her is trial and error right now. I'm trying for a 9 pm bed time, but tonight since she was up after a feed I thought we could go for a walk to help her fall asleep. Big mistake. Now she refuses to sleep and I'm pretty sure I made it worse by taking her out so late. I usually lotion her, jammies feed and bed. But this doesnt always work. She often is awake til 4 am no matter what I do, so I was trying 11 pm bed time hoping then she would sleep but nope. She was often awake crying inconsolably. I feed her and feed her. She often will try to eat my shoulder or her fists so I try to feed her and she just cries at my breast. Or she latches and then pulls off a million times until I give up and just rock her to sleep for an hour and a half. What am I doing wrong 😔 shes 6 weeks old on Thursday. Tonight shes been cluster feeding. And now back on boob again. I might die of exhaustion. Going back to work in Septmwber will not be fun if this continues  🥴

It sounds a lot like my son a few weeks ago. Basically he was over eating and he would get a stomach ache because of it and so he would try to eat more thinking it’d make his stomach feel better. It was a vicious cycle. His pediatrician sent us home with probiotic drops to help aid his digestion and said try skipping a feed and giving a paci. Of course he wouldn’t let me have him skip a feed 😂 but I swear those drops were magical! It helped him so much and now he eats more regularly and doesn’t get bad stomach aches. You should try it! Oh no 
First of all, you’re not failing, give yourself a break. My first born didn’t start sleeping through the night until he was 11 months old. I thought I was the worst mom in the world, but now at almost 2 he sleeps in like a teenager. 
It sounds like she may be overtired and not hungry which is why she is so fussy. 
Usually during the day I put my baby down after an hour of being awake (30 minutes of feeding/ being changed; 30 minutes of play). Then I let her sleep for max 2 hours and then I wake her up, we do this all day until 5:30 when she wakes up and I keep her up for just 30 minutes extra, so an hour and a half in total. I put her to sleep at 7 and then do a dream feed at 10. 
Some nights she’ll sleep through the night, other nights she’ll wake up once to be fed.

Pay attention to wake windows and sleepy cues . Takingcarababies program worked wonders .my little guy used to wake every 2 hours through the night now he’s sleeping 6 solid hours . It’ll get better !

You’re not doing anything wrong, mama. Some babies just take longer to adjust. My oldest had to be rocked, swung, bounced, you name it for LONG periods of time before falling asleep. It got better over time, but the beginning was tough. Sending hugs 🤗

Babies are unpredictable. My first slept through the night right out of the gate. No problems and has been a solid sleeper going on 19 months now. Just brought his baby brother home and it is the complete opposite. Up every 3-4 hours to eat and he definitely takes pride in the “witching hour” when he is a disaster. I am supposed to go back to  work next week but when I get 3- 4 hours of sleeps night it is hard to imagine going back. 
Give yourself a break. I legit cry myself to sleep sometimes or cry just rocking him back to sleep. You aren’t doing anything wrong babies are just on their own schedule and we just have to adjust.

She’s probably going through a growth spurt. I struggled quite a bit with my first (I’m on my third baby now) 
What helped me was downloading the wonder weeks app. It isn’t some miracle worker to get baby to sleep but it’s more so that you can anticipate the leaps in mental development. It helps you mentally prepare for the “storm” ahead that way you know it’s not you. 
Hang in there mama. Time goes by so fast. Before you know it baby will be a toddler

You’re not doing anything wrong. Some babies are just bad sleepers. Plus they are only about to be 6 weeks old!  Give it some time. I know it’s super frustrating.  My daughter didn’t sleep all the way through the night until she was 15 months old.

So sorry you’re having this experience! It’s hard to tell what the “issue” is without knowing you’re whole day and night routine etc, but if you have Instagram look up TakingCaraBabies - she has the best advice on baby sleep! For us, swaddling/white noise/pitch black room/minimal interaction at night really helped him sleep properly, as well as paying attention to “wake windows” between naps (at this age aim for 60-90 mins). It’s hard to know if your milk is the issue, so maybe ask a doctor about that if you think her feeding is what’s keeping her awake? You’re doing great, I know this stage is hard, is does get easier I promise!!
