Daycare vs no Daycare

My SO and I have discussed before having kids that we won't be taking our kid to a daycare until they are 2.5-3 yrs old for kindergarden. We have arranged our time that we both will take care of our child.

My S-i-l is telling me to take my 13 month to a small daycare group because kids thrive and get more advanced. I always say no one can take care of your child better than your hands. And for some it might be beneficial for different reasons to use daycare but we are comfortable having hands on for ours. My question is, does it really matter if kids attend daycare or not at early age?
