Do you keep pictures of exes?

Question

I’m newly and happily engaged and we just moved in together. When I was going through my stuff, I found pictures of me and my ex. Not sure if I should get rid of them. I don’t want to “hide” them. I don’t have a problem getting rid of them either. I know I would be upset if I found pictures of him and his ex in our new place but I’m also the jealous type so not sure if it’s just me. I’m just curious what other people’s stances are or what they have done. Should I just toss them?

I have photos of my exes - those are experiences and moments that are part of who I am and I enjoyed them. I don’t have naked photos and I don’t look at them often, but they tell the story of my life. I tossed a lot of photos after my HS sweetheart and I broke up and now a decade later, I wish I had some of those because we had good memories.

Toss them. Really no reason to keep them. The only way I could see keeping them is if you both had children together and you’d want the pictures for them to have one day.

I have some in an old photo album. I didn't see the need to toss them because not only do I have memories I can look back on but some of the people in the photos have passed and others have moved away and we lost touch. I never made my fiance get rid of old photos. I think it's cool to look back and hear the stories he has to tell about them. He is friends with quite a few exes as am I. I don't see the issue unless the ex is getting in the way and at that point there is bigger problems than some pictures

I've gotten rid of a couple but not much. I think I have 2 photographs of events, the rest are on Facebook. Someone would have to seriously be making a pilgrimage past the million pictures of my husband, son, pets, and garden to find them, though.
I don't believe in censoring your life but if you forgot you had them and they're not doing anything like reminding you of a trip or something, it sounds like you may as well throw them out. It wouldn't change your life either way.

I don’t see a problem with keeping them. It’s not like you’re framing it and hanging it on the wall. It will be in a box deep in a closet somewhere. When you’re 80 and going through your things, it would be nice to have the old pics, even if it’s of your ex. Who cares? Some of the memories would be bad AND good. It’s what made you who you are.

The only pictures i have, that have my ex in, are because my pets are in them (which he gave away while i was looking after my elderly, disabled mother) and it’s not possible to crop him out without destroying the part with whichever pet is in it. Other than that I have no desire to ever see that cheating, emotionally controlling waste of oxygen again.

No. I have no desire to hang onto bad memories. The only thing I kept from my ex was a bottle of perfume and a firm resolve never to give him any space in my head ever again.

Only pictures I’ve kept of my ex have my 10 year old in them.
