Opinions on giving up my eggs?

So I am planning on getting my tubes tied after my second child. Everything is already decided because I don’t want anymore children. I was told it was kind of selfish to not have any more babies because I can physically have them and some women can’t. Which I didn’t get mad because I agree. Which made me think since I don’t want any more children there are many of women out there who would love to have a baby but simply can’t for various reasons. So I’m thinking about donating some of my eggs before I get my procedure done. I’d love to give back to women who have a problem that I don’t have. Any opinions? I’m definitely not doing it for the money either. I could care less if I get paid or not. I just want to give people happiness and a new life with their families.

It is 100% not selfish to not want more kids. Whoever said that to you is a bit of an asshole for saying so. It’s definitely a wonderful thing to do, but it’s also a lot to put your body through.

First of all, the vast majority of our eggs “go to waste.” Plenty of people who can have children decide to have zero children. You don’t have to donate your eggs because you feel guilty. It would be a very thoughtful and generous gift to give someone struggling with fertility if it is something you really want to do. I also just wanted to pose the question... could you donate eggs after having your tubes tied? I’m not a doctor, so I may be wrong, but as long as they’re not taking your ovaries (and they shouldn’t for hormone reasons), you should still be producing eggs. It’s just that your Fallopian tubes are gone so the egg can’t make it to your uterus to implant keeping you from getting pregnant. I may be wrong, but it might be worth double checking. Knowing that you can later might take the pressure off of trying to do it before you get your tubes tied (egg harvesting is not an easy process).

I think it’s very nice to consider donating eggs, but look into it. You’d need someone to pay for all of the meds and retrieval procedure. It’s a long, somewhat difficult process. I’m not sure how egg retrieval works for donation but for IVF you may go through the whole expensive process and not get any good eggs or most maybe 2 or 3. 
I also think that if you are done having kids it is not selfish to “waste” the rest of your eggs. It’s your body and your eggs. You can decide what to do with them and it’s not your responsibility to use up all of your eggs.

Just so you know, it’s not as simple as just harvesting eggs. There’s a whole process, which includes hormone injections, eggs maturing, etc. I was having my ovary removed due to a cyst and asked if we could save my eggs, just in case. She laughed a little and said we could, but it was a process that would require a lot of medical intervention and time, neither of which I was willing to go through (hence my lack of thorough details on the actual process). It’s admirable, but know that it’s not at all selfish of you to get your tubes tied and it’s unfair for someone to say such.
