Comparing Proposals

Hi!

So I know it is probably me and my own insecurities that I have to work on but I wanted to give you all a current situation I’m on and get your take/advice.

So my fiancé was married before. He is 34 but got married when he was 26. Their marriage obviously didn’t last as she was unfaithful.

My fiancé and I have talked about wanting to be with each other forever. We both knew we wanted to marry each other and the other day we were in the mall buying a chain for a pendant I have and he said since we were in the jewellery someone we should look at engagement rings. I saw one I liked in our budget and he said that he loves me and wants to be with me forever and should we go ahead and get the ring? I said yes I would love that as I know I want him forever. Part of me wished for a proposal where he surprises me nd gets down on one knee but he is not the most romantic person so.

Now he asked if I expected something more surprising and romantic for him. I said I don’t know as I don’t know how he did it on the past with his ex. I didn’t know if he planned it out or what. Keep in mind he proposed to her after 2 weeks of dating and they married one year after being engaged. He was mad I brought this up and apparently he said it was all stupid and a big mistake. But I did get the story out of him that he had a family heirloom ring that he surprised her with when he popped the question. She didn’t end up wanting that ring she got a new one.

Part of me is bothered that with her he took the time to plan it out and surprise her. Make it romantic for her and give her a family heirloom. I am worried that he doesn’t think I am worthy of planning something special. I may not be romantic but I want to feel like I deserve a proposal most people get.

How ridiculous am I being for thinking this? Does he just not want to put the effort in for me? How would you guys feel and what are your thoughts?
