Diaper rash advice needed

So I switched diaper brands a couple of weeks ago, only temporarily because the store had no Huggies in stock (what we ALWAYS use. Had to get parents choice instead) and my son started itching his penis a lot after three days, so I went to another store and bought huggies. His rash comes and goes now, mainly went away over the weekend when he’s with me and came back beginning of the week at daycare.

There’s no bumps, it’s hardly red at this point, but he has the tiniest cuts at the base of his penis, it’s broken just at the first layer of skin. Every time he’s changed its like it pulls back open because I have to make sure he’s clean and move it so I can make sure I’m getting left over cream off of him from the previous diaper change.

I guess I’m just wondering what you mamas use for diaper rashes? I left work to get maximum strength Desitin and A+D ointment, and I dropped off the A+D at his daycare and asked that they change him by the hour.

What is a really good, thick cream, that would be helpful for a small rash and slightly broken skin? He hardly gets rashes anymore and A+D used to work so quick but it’s just not very thick and I need something thick to last him in between changes at daycare.
