Little Bit of a Workplace Rant

Background info: So I started a new job in July. When I had my first day, the HR person said “We had a hard time deciding between you and her.” Her being my coworker that was also hired at the same time.

So here’s my rant. After I started, I quickly found out on my bosses calendar (All of our calendars are linked so we can see appointments) that my coworker had been hired almost a mont earlier than me. We had interviewed at the same time and they had called her back right away but then didn’t call me back for a month. So, I felt slighted by the HR guy and I couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t just be truthful about the situation. I was only called because another employee had quit his job suddenly. So I put that aside.

Fast forward to a couple weeks later. The HR person comes and gets my coworker multiple times per week. I don’t think anything of it. I then joked with her that she must have a lot more paperwork to fill out than me. She then stated that some of the dates on her resume had not lined up. So that was my first red flag. Then some weeks later, I found out she had a different job title than me even though we’re in the same position. I asked her why she had a different position that I had never heard of. She said that there was a discrepancy from what she wrote on her resume and what she actually worked. So she didn’t have the experience for the position. So now she has basically been “in training” for two month while I have been doing actual work. By the way the “in training” position doesn’t exist, it was only made for her.

I’m grateful that I have my job, I honestly am. I’m just super upset that they were going to go with someone who doesn’t have the experience over me who actually has more experience than they wanted. If the HR person was telling the truth then there wasn’t much different about us. I honestly wouldn’t feel this way if she had the experience, then i would say she was just better at interviewing. Also with that I feel like at any other job if you lied on your resume then you would immediately be fired since you don’t have the experience to qualify for the position? And you lied? It’s not like she had the dates of by days, it was months.

I have become friends with her but these thoughts keep creeping in. What do you think?
