I'm worried that being with him will be my financial downfall
I am the first person to insist that money is not everything. I dont love money. I dont live lavishly. I am not a needy or materialistic person. My guilty pleasures are cookie dough, leg day, coffee, cooking, and decorating for low prices and with cheap finds!
I have a little boy who is my world. He is 4. (His dad took off when i the doctor confirmed my pregnancy at 6-7 weeks). I rent a little apartment for $1000 a month. Its small, it isnt much, but it doesn't break the bank. It allows me to live below my means and let's me set aside $300-500 per month into savings each month because I dont pay a lot for rent. I drive a 2011 car that I bought used and I fix it myself keeping it road worthy. I'm big on cooking home cooked healthy meals and honestly it is a lot of work but you really do save money by actually eating your groceries and not ordering food all the time! I have only one credit card now. I used to have two but I fully paid off the higher one ($5,000) and my current one has a smaller $2,000 limit and I do my best to always keep it almost paid off (revolving. I try to never use more than $500. If I do, I bring it all the way back down to zero and then again try to keep my max balance no more than $500)
Now the love of my life is such a good guy. Not perfect but he is the Ying to my yang. We are so similar but we have enough differences that actually compliment and help balance us. Like he cant cook but I can. He hates laundry i love it. I hate dishes. He loves it. But he is materialistic and I am not. He has to have the biggest and best of everything. Not a saver. Not a budgeter. If he wants something, he sets his mind and he gets it. He buys (finances) new vehicles every two years. I have known him for a long time. Even before we got together. I've known him for 8 years and I've seen him go through 6 vehicles. He doesn't own anything substantial (doesnt own a car or a house or have any real assets) Has ridiculously high almost maxed out credit cards totally about $40,000 across 3 cards. He collects watches. Shoes. Likes his name brand clothes. Will go out and buy a whole new leather sofa because of a scuff mark. I will be honest, hes gotten better. But im still worried about life moving in with him and having his bad financial decisions rub off on me.
