Natural twin birth story
Meet Silas and Fisher

After waiting as long as my doctor would allow for my body to start labor on its own, My doctor scheduled my for an induction at 38 weeks and 3 days.
We went in that morning and started pitocin at 7 am. I was nervous about being induced because I didn’t want any medication or intervention— and with our first, I had gone into labor on my own.
Thankfully the doctor was not in a rush and slowly increased pitocin to gently nudge my body towards labor. Around 10pm, the contractions started getting more intense , where I needed to move around and breathe differently to deal with the pain. Our doula was sending us different positions to be in to cope with the pain I was describing— and that was extremely helpful!
Eventually I made my way to the bathroom and had my husband hold the shower head right at the base of my spine (sacrum) for the next hour of intensifying contractions. After about an hour the hospital told me I’d have to leave the water because their mobile monitoring system could only monitor one of the twins at a time— and my doctor wanted to be able to monitor both. I was nervous that I would only be at a 4-5 at this point and started questioning if I should get an epidural. My doula came at the perfect moment and started coaching my breathing through contractions and massaging my back to push into the contractions instead of fighting against them. It was amazing how much her coaching and massage relieved the pain!
About an hour later, my water suddenly broke and when they checked me I was at a 9! A couple minutes later I felt the urge to push. At this point we were still in the labor room, and the doctor had said we’d need to deliver in the OR. I didn’t have the capacity to climb down from the bed , and couldn’t imagine leaving my position kneeled on the bed grasping the raised headboard section.

Thankfully they wheeled my bed down the hall and into the OR so I didn’t have to move! Once there, I had a rush of adrenaline and I knew the end was close and we’d get to meet them soon. Again, my doula coached me through pushing into the pain of pushing, and not fighting it or tensing up— and I visualised every push bringing down the babies. I pushed for about 15 minutes with the first.... then the doctor had to check how close the second baby was. He had me push a few times even though I wasn’t feeling the urge, in order to bring the baby down.
8 minutes later the Fisher made his appearance.
He needed the clap for a couple minutes because of a weak cry, but after a couple minutes both boys were given to me and my husband as a finished birthing the placentas.
Thankfully I didn’t need any stitches and both boys were healthy enough to not need any NICU time.
Silas was 6lbs 7oz
Fisher was 6 lbs
Thanking God for such a smooth delivery and lots of answered prayers along the way!
