Miscarriage or Chemical?

My OB says I’m having a miscarriage.. but the ER doctor that gave me my rhogam shot said I might not have even been pregnant.. I go back to the OB on the 6th and plan to chat with her but I thought I’d get some opinions in the meantime... 
Here are my details-
I got a vvfl on 10/20 and my OB sent me for BW and got an hCG of 14 had blood work again two days later and the hCG was <5.. and she called and said I was miscarrying. 
I was only 5 weeks along.. 
Also I don’t really understand the difference between a chemical and a miscarriage but google says 5 weeks and earlier then it’s-a chemical?? But you’re still losing a pregnancy right so why is it different? And why does everyone act like a chemical is no big deal? I’m not being snide I just don’t understand. Any help would be great!!

Technically, chemical pregnancy and miscarriage could be used interchangeably until about 6 weeks. 
Even more technically, neither of those are medical terms. The medical term is spontaneous abortion, so neither of those mean anything to healthcare professionals, it’s just the recognized slang. 
I lost a pregnancy at 5w2d and it is a miscarriage to me. You can call yours whatever you want, because it’s your baby, your story, your grief.

An chemical pregnancy is a miscarriage. A lot of people use the term chemical pregnancy when it happens pretty early on. Some doctors won’t consider you pregnant until your HCG reaches a certain level which is why the ER might have told you that you were never pregnant. I have had experience with this as well too. I believe I was less than 5 weeks though.

A chemical is a miscarriage, it’s just a very early one. The only difference is that with a chemical it’s too soon to see anything with an ultrasound so the only evidence that you’re pregnant is the chemicals (hormones) in your body.

I always thought a chemical was if you tested before your missed period and got a positive test but then got your period when your period was due. I was told I had a chemical, they gave me a shot just in case but I missed my period by a week. I also had large amounts of tissue pass way more than a normal period. From what I read A chemical pregnancy you do not need to get the shot but a miscarriage you do.

The difference is personal to each person.
I've had 2 losses that occured at technically the same gestation, 5 weeks exactly. The first I consider a miscarriage because I had clear positives and obvious pregnancy symptoms before I miscarried. The actual act of miscarrying took over a week and was incredibly painful. The whole thing was very traumatic.
This last month I experienced a chemical pregnancy. I got several very faint lines that got darker over a few days but never turned into clear positives, had mild pregnancy symptoms, and ended up experiencing the loss before I could confirm pregnancy. It was just like a normal cycle. I feel as though the hcg never got very high with the chemical.
I personally am not emotionally affected by the chemical because I never was able to confirm pregnancy or get attached because I never had a full positive. 
With one I was disappointed to not be pregnant, with the other I'm still grieving.
Also, if your hcg was over 5 then you were definitely pregnant.

Mc and chemical are the same just lost don’t know they even have a chemical cuz a lot of times you don’t get a positive pregnancy test it’s just a late period it may seem. I had a chemical and I didn’t need to get the rhogam shot. But I did have it with a Mc before mu chemical

A chemical basically means the egg never actually implanted properly so an embryo didn’t ever form, that’s why some don’t consider them the same. Sounds like it was a chemical, still a loss, since u levels were fairly low and then decreased so quickly.

A chemical is a miscarriage. It sounds like you had a chemical based on how far along you were, but that’s just another term for an early miscarriage. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, it sucks.
