When to potty train?

Question

My daughter will be 2 in February. When should I potty train her? She has a seat for the big toilet but she never goes on it. She’s very smart so I’m wondering if I should buy her a potty chair and try to get her trained?
I also have heard wait until they are ready, but my mom is making me feel like she is behind. 
Thoughts?!

So, intelligence has nothing to do with potty training. Just remember that. 
Age two is a good sweet spot for potty training, but anytime between 20-30 months is ideal. I would recommend “Oh Crap! Potty Training”

The period of time when it is the easiest to potty train is 12-18 months.  If you start later it is very difficult because toddlers fight change.

We started sitting her on the potty at about 18 months and read a book or two. When she peed or pooped we praised her. Eventually she knew, that the potty was for peeing and pooping. We started a month ago (she'll be 2y 6 m in November)  to stop wearing diapers since she showed interest on going to the toilet. She pees very well and only has had a few accidents. Pooping is different though, sometimes she goes in her underwear and never says anything. Just doesn't bother her. Or she finds it really amusing. I guess the feeling of popping in a diaper and into underwear isn't that much different. Sometimes I don't know if she really is ready, but she's doing so well other times, I don't wanna stop now

We potty trained when my daughter was just after two. She was telling us when she peed or pooped in her diaper and was staying dry for long periods of time. She’s been day trained for about seven months now. We’re still working on poop though. She holds it until her bedtime pull-up and will only go there. Still she’s not having any accidents, so her pediatrician said it’s better not to press the issue in case she stops pooping entirely and requires medical intervention (which can happen if you push the training too hard).

First Just ignore your mom . Second your daughter needs to be able to understand and verbalize that she needs to go . If she is just start by sitting her on it every 15 minutes or so and saying time to go pee when she does get really excited so she understands that’s what she’s suppose to be doing . If she’s not able to understand quite  yet that completely normal I would just wait til closer to 2

Just when she starts showing interest in the potty. Don’t rush it. And no, she’s not behind. Most kids learn around 2 or 3. It will just be and exercise in frustration to try to train her before that.

My daughter will also be 2 in February. I plan on starting sometime after that.  I’ve read the ideal time is between 2.5-3.5 years because they have enough brain and bladder development to train successfully.

You can try whenever you want, but they say wait till the baby is ready because they will only learn when they’re ready anyways. It will save your sanity not to stress over it until you really have to.
