What do you feel is most important in a car seat/stroller and do you have recommendations?

Is there anything you didn't realize you needed until you didn't have it in yours? 
I'll be needing one soon and I am really leaning towards one that clicks into the stroller and has at least 2 bases so I don't have to move it between cars. Beyond that I don't know what I need to look for in a car seat and what's just a gimmick.

I love my modes travel system for the versatility of it and it was within our budget. Sometimes we just pop the car seat in the stroller frame so we don’t have to take the whole thing with us. My daughter does really well facing our in the stroller but when she gets to the point where she needs to see us we can easily turn her around. 
I don’t know of a travel system that comes with more than one base. We bought 2 more bases for my mom and husbands cars.

A head/arm support. Car seats can have your baby in an awkward sitting position so this is needed for your baby’s comfort.

A compact fold in a stroller, and a car seat that doesn’t need a base. (One that can be installed with a seatbelt option as well)
This car seat would clip in to any stroller that used maxi cosi adapters

Having bases in all cars makes it much easier. It’s fine if you want to click it onto the stroller for very short trips, but baby really shouldn’t be in the car seat out of the car for any real length of time. Having a bassinet was really important for us. It was great for walks, and the uppababy one is safe for sleep as well. The other things I look for are greenguard certified fabrics, and on the stroller itself, a big basket, easy fold, and air or foam tires for a super smooth push.

I bought my car seats a few years ago and I’m still happy with my purchases. For an infant seat I watched lots of YouTube reviews and nontoxic baby gear websites and kept coming across the Nuna Pipa. I liked the fact that it was nontoxic, has a load leg for extra safety, isofix for foolproof installation (this is actually extremely important since most car seats are installed incorrectly, which makes them less safe), plus it’s the lightest car seat on the market so it’s easy to lug your little one around. I also like the dream drape, but that’s just a bonus. 
For a stroller I wanted one that was easy to fold, had an adjustable and comfortable handle bar, could be used from birth, had lots of storage, and had big wheels for all terrain. We bought the Nuna Mixx, which can be easily used with the Pipa car seat.

I used that style and bought an extra base. I don’t think a car seat stroller combo comes with two bases, just one. So you would have to buy the second one. They are very easy to find online and some stores carry the additional bases. One I used the extra base was $80, the other one I used it was $30. So it varies by brand and car seat models.
