Am I Selfish?

My sister is having a baby showering and I can't go. I can't risk catching covid. Me and my husband both work from home and if I have to go out I always social distance and wear a mask. He has REALLY bad asthma. I may have thought about it if he hadn't almost died from an asthma attack three weeks ago. I can't risk him getting covid. Plus a lot of my sisters friends are going and they have been out at parties and clubs. I've seen on their Facebook. I sent my sister some gifts for the baby, but she says I'm being selfish. If my husband didn't have such bad asthma I might have decided to go, but I just can't risk it.

Your sister is selfish. Hosting parties is dumb and irresponsible. You have to do what is best for your family, no matter what other people think or say. We have missed many important events, including baby showers, because we feel its not the best choice for us.

Your sister is the selfish one. Who has a party during a pandemic?  Most cases are now being spread through family events and work. You are doing the right thing in protecting your family.

Your sister is the one that's being selfish. She is putting her life at risk and her unborn child. You're doing what you need to do protect your family. if she doesn't like it then she needs to grow up. She Does not realize whenever she gives birth she might have to go to the hospital a week early. she might have to get tested everybody in her home has to get tested.like there is doctors that are telling people they don't want really anybody around a baby for 3 months until the baby has all it shots. It depends on where you live.

If you are in the US, we just had 100,000 cases in ONE DAY. You are not being selfish in the slightest. If anything, she is. I had a baby in July and you know what? I didn’t get a shower because the health of the people I love is far more important than cake and presents.

That's not selfish, that's cautious. I was expecting you to say you had some demand or weird accommodation. I get her wanting you there but sitting it out isn't the end of the world.

Your sister is in the wrong. We all need to do our part and stay home. Hosting a party without proper social distancing is selfish. 
Everyone has a life and is missing out on experiences they won’t get back. Everyone misses their family and friends and normal life. But we need to be safe. And unfortunately that’s just life now. 
She should have a drive by or virtual shower, or even outside with social distancing.
