Toxic positivity

Me

I keep seeing this tweet circulate as 2020 rounds near its end.

Normally I am for positive thinking and positive manifesting, but I find this particular statement and idea toxic. I find it very tone deaf and invalidating to how many people have suffered this year. People lost their jobs, their businesses, their loved ones, their own LIVES.

I’ve seen the same sentiments expressed to people who have suffered greatly before. Expressing “at least you survived” to a veteran who lost both legs. Telling a mother who miscarried that she should just focus on her living children and be grateful she has them. Toxic positivity is everywhere and I feel like it doesn’t get talked about enough.

Have you ever experienced it? Seen it? Lemme know your thoughts.
