Am I in the wrong for getting my mom a “cheap” Christmas present?

My Mom and I have always had a tough relationship. I usually see her once a year since I was a kid, she lives in another state.

This Christmas, she’s going to be gone for work all of December so we exchanged Christmas presents early. Since I was a kid, she sort of “makes up” for never seeing me by getting me nice gifts some years.

I’m 22 and my husband and I live in our house we recently bought, with our child and pets. We buy gifts for a lot of people so we don’t go overboard on everyone’s stuff.

I got my Mom a canvas easel of pictures of me, my husband and our child so she could have pictures of us in her house. I think it was around $20-30.

She seemed very offended and disappointed by it being so “small and cheap”. And said “that’s it?”.Then rambled on about something like “I spend so much more money on your gifts, how is this fair? Why should I buy you anything from now on if my gift isn’t equal in value?”

Idk if I’m in the wrong or not. It’s just hard to spend $80-150 per person. We’re just starting out.
