Free period products!!!!! Is the overall cost worth it or now?

Hello CC I know we have had this topic before and we all feel a certain way about this but a country has officially done it!!

Now knowing that it would potentially cost 8.7 million dollars as a starting point do you think it’s more possible for other countries to jump on board now?!

Possible, sure, but it’s not likely the US would jump on board. We don’t even want to make sure everyone has food. There is no way people would go for something that isn’t required to sustain life 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think it would be great to have and to leave the option for us to pay but those funds go to counting to make these products free.

Im not opposed to this law but I would much rather support a program that gave out reusable products initially: say, Every person who menstruates will get a package of a cup and reusable pads, and if anything else is needed they can purchase it tax free. 
In addition, places like schools, workplaces or hospitals should provide free emergency menstrual products in all bathrooms (we have these already but they cost £1 per dispense).

I’m not necessarily opposed to the idea, but where does it end? Free toilet paper? Free nappies? Free personal hygiene products? We can’t do it all.

That’s awesome. I’m all for this. Unfortunately with the budgetary cuts from revenue loss related to Covid I doubt we’ll be seeing this here anytime soon. Maybe in the next decade if we’re lucky.

Personally I don't support it, free reusable products should be available to those who need it but most people absolutely can afford to buy period products. Making everything free for everyone is exactly why they reintroduced certain fees to everyone/stopped covering things with the NHS (think opticians and dentist). People take advantage when things are free, disposable period products are damaging to the planet, aside from the very small minority of people who couldn't afford period products now having access to these, all I am seeing is downsides. Besides it is fuelling the misogynistic shit I see on facebook (not anyone's fault but the misogynists but I'd still rather see less of it than more).
