Do you pay for your adult child?

Question

Your daughter is 19 and moved out and you're going on a family vacation with your 4 younger kids. Do you pay for all of her stuff to come?

Yes, no doubt about it. She’s still my child no matter what age and as long as I can afford for all of us to go why wouldn’t I? I don’t believe in the whole “once you’re 18 you’re outta here, good luck” type of parenting just seems cruel to me because you never stop being a parent.

If I want her to come, I pay. She’s 19, it’s doubtful she’d be able pay for herself.

I am 32, if it would be up to my parents they would still pay for everything 🤣🤣🤣🤣. They have a low income so they need the money. We go on vacay once in a while with more family members. We have to tell them everytime that it is not necessary. Then they want to pay for other things like diners and stuf. Sometimes we let them, other moments we pay. No matter my age, they are still my parents. Especially my mom, she is the sweetest. She still puts money everywhere without me looking when I visit. She knows I wouldn't accept it otherwise and we don't live near them so we see each other like once a month.
It is not weird at all. At 19 you are still a kid. I moved out at 16, but that did not mean I could finance everything myself, even though I was working (and school full time). 
If you as a parent invite your 19 year old kid to come on vacation you can not expect them to pay for everything. But maybe she/he can pay for a nice dinner on the last night as a thanks? It sounds weird, but enjoy those last moments you can be the caregiver, even if it is only financially. It is not far away when they tell you they don't need you anymore.

My dad typically pays if it’s a family thing...and I’m definitely adult aged 😬 
That being said, I wasn’t ever living at home post graduation and he doesn’t pay any of my other bills.

My parents paid for most of the cruise that we went on when I was 24, they just asked that I chipped in for like half of the room. Ended up being less than 250.

I wouldn’t get her her own hotel room, but she can certainly stay in one of the rooms or the couch in the suite or whatever. If we are already buying meals out, it’s really not a big deal to add another mouth. I would budget and plan accordingly and maybe do a few less paid activities to accommodate the tickets we do buy. Honestly, we usually go to the beach or camping, and do a big grocery shop to cover a good portion of meals, so in our case, it really wouldn’t be a big deal 🤷🏼‍♀️

If she wants to come she can pay, unless I want her to come specifically, then I’d pay. Which honestly I’d probably do most often, until she’s well established and I can ask her to pay her own way, or until she starts wanting to bring her partner with her.
