Breastfeeding troubles
Just wanting some advice... I breastfed my first daughter for 6 months. She was a great eater, totally content when breastfeeding, and would completely “empty” each breast.
Fast forward to my 6 week old daughter. She is restless when breastfeeding, pops on and off, not the best latch (got her tongue tie clipped a few weeks ago), very gassy, spits up a lot, etc... she definitely isn’t eating that much (although idk quantity for sure, obviously). She won’t breastfeed for long periods and my boobs still feel full afterwards. My husband will give her a bottle of my breast milk before bed and she LOSES HER MIND. Crying, so fussy. Arching her back. It’s really like she doesn’t want it at all.
So we tried formula for 3 days. I’ve been pumping in the meantime to keep my supply in case there was no difference with formula. She is completely finishing 3-4 ounces each bottle of formula. No fussing or crying, less spitting up, seems less gassy... she doesn’t fight at all... all around it seems to be going better... I’m having the hardest time “pulling the trigger” and stopping breastfeeding. I’m so not ready to wean... she’s still a newborn, it makes me so so sad. I’ve definitely shed some tears 😥
What would you do? Formula is there for a reason- I’m not bashing it or saying it’s wrong at all! It just is so hard to stop breastfeeding already, and I feel like since I’m making milk that should be what I use... are there any suggestions or things I haven’t tried?
