What age should a baby be potty trained by? Read first please!

I made a comment about my MIL’s youngest child not being potty trained and is almost 3 and someone said “wow he should be potty trained by now that’s a little much”. Their argument was that the kid is pretty big already he knows right from wrong, he’s pretty advanced other than this￼but he still goes in his diaper all the time like he isn’t even close to being potty trained. Partly because my mother-in-law doesn’t really pay attention to her kids and they aren’t really working with him on it they bought him a mini potty but they used it for like a week and then put it away. ￼￼￼I know every kid is different and they do things at their own pace but generally

We tried at 2 & at 2.5 she regressed both times. Then a week after her 3rd birthday she pretty much potty trained herself and it was a whole lot less stressful on both of us. Wait until they’re ready ❤️

I don’t think any child should be forced to be potty trained if they are not ready, all kids learn at the own pace, shaming them or there parents doesn’t help. Between 2 and 3 is generally when they learn so I wouldn’t be to concerned.

I work in a daycare and all of our kids are started on potty training by the time they are two. Most are fully potty trained in a couple months, definitely by 2.5. Unless their parents are aren’t working on it at home (we can easily tell which parents are working on it and which aren’t), those kids have a bit more trouble.

Well for me 3 is too big! My son wasn’t fully potty trained until like 2.5 years old and I hated that, my daughter was fully potty trained by 1.5 almost 2, and when my 10 month old turns 1.5 it will be her turn to start getting potty train....3 is way to big FOR ME to be buying and changing diapers 🤦🏽‍♀️. by 3 the toddlers are walking, running, talking very well, they know right from wrong, they know what they want and what they don’t want, and for all those reasons and more it’s time. but, some kids may take a little longer than others to potty train because my son did...it’s time to start showing him or her how to be a big kid and go to the potty you don’t want him or her thinking it’s okay to mess themselves at 3. That’s just my opinion 🤷🏽‍♀️

I work in a daycare and most children can potty train by 2ish.
We are seeing more and more kids that can’t even dress themselves which makes training harder. More and more kids not training until 3.5-4 which is ridiculous. I’ve seen multiple kids train before their 2nd birthday. If the kid is showing signs, they can train. But at 3 they should be starting for sure in my opinion.

I don't know. My daughter will be 3 in March and we've tried all the things for 6 months now. Sometimes she'll tell us she needs to go, most times we ask her (every 30 mins) if she needs to go. If she says no the first time, she has to try the second time. She's all about sitting on the potty, but I don't know how to get her to actually go IN the potty. She says she has to pee, we sit her up there, she says she's done, we hold her there for a minute more. Nothing. So we let her go. She's been going to the bathroom with me since birth. She knows what the toilet is for. But won't actually go in the toilet. I caught her just in time ONCE to get her to poop in the big potty. We made a huge to-do about it. She was really excited, and that's the only success we've had so far. It's frustrating and tiring. But we keep at it. It has to click at some point.

Mine first 3 kids were potty trained around 3/3.5. My youngest started younger, she's 2.5, but she's not very consistent yet. It doesn't bother me if it takes some kids a few more months. I really don't get why some people push the potty training. Unless they're going to a daycare or preschool that requires it as a certain age, I see no real benefit to pushing so early, other than yeah it saves you money on diapers. But I don't think there's like a specific need for them to be out of diapers before 3, and sometimes pushing them too early before they're ready just causes other issues. You can get a toddler potty and put potty songs on YouTube like the Daniel Tiger one, see what she does. Mine just decided one day to try it.

It's not really fair for that person to say the kid should know right from wrong. Little children don't think "nappy wrong, potty right" and where they "go" shouldn't be viewed as wrong or right. Children learn at their own pace and even kids that took to potty training really well can end up going "backwards" for a few months and have quite a few accidents.

Usually 3 is the prime age by 4 most are entering preschool of a sort so the teacher will also do it.

I started potty training my sister around 8-10 months & she was potty trained by 1 1/2 years. It’s all up to the parents really & how long they would like to continue changing diapers
