Empty gestational sac success story

Hi all, I just wanted to share my story for anyone that constantly searches for anyone going through similar experiences to themselves.

I went through IVF and got my BFP in November. When I went in for my 6 week scan to see where the embryo implanted we saw a big healthy sac. But that was it. It was completely empty. My dates were not off due to the IVF. My doctor didn’t seem too concerned and I was scheduled to go back in at 6+4.

I went back, and still saw just an empty sac. The sac had grown but there was nothing in it. Again my doctor scheduled another appointment and told me it could possibly be a blighted ovum, but we would wait and see before doing anything.

At 7 weeks I went in again, and saw nothing but a still growing, empty sac. My doctor spent a good 5-10 minutes scanning me and kept saying he thought he could see a flicker of something. I had to hold my breath and keep as still as possible and he FINALLY was able to see the tiniest little fetal pole, a possible yolk sac and catch a flicker of a heart beat when I wasn’t moving or breathing. The second I took a breath we couldn’t see anything again and they could not hear a heartbeat, only see it.

If he had not aggressively searched, we would have seen only an empty sac at 7 weeks too.

Fast forward to today- I had my final IVF checkup and at 8 weeks I finally got to easily see a healthy baby growing and heard my baby’s heart beat for the first time.

I know this was super long, but I hope it can help someone like me to have hope, not worry, and most importantly give their baby time to show up on the screen. My doctor was wonderful, but I know of some that would rush to do a D&C or push medication to end the pregnancy. Not every pregnancy, every baby or every body is the same! You are not out if you can’t see your baby by 7 weeks!
