Has anyone been to PR is it dangerous?

I’m going to Puerto Rico for my honeymoon and was gonna rent a car and my father in law is saying it’s dangerous and wouldn’t rent a car because you can get into a bad area. He literally terrified me from going. Anyone been there ?! I thought It wasn’t that bad.

I’ve heard good things. Luckily I can understand Spanish well and speak some. I’d just stay in touristy areas and have a plan in place incase somebody gets lost etc

No, you will be fine and PR is no different from the states or anywhere else. PR is part of the US.

I went this past October and if you rent a car just beware the whole damn island cannot drive. But I think it’s easy to avoid dangerous neighborhoods. They have toll roads and whatnot. We rented a car and drove and was nervous the whole time because nobody used a blinker, everyone was speeding, and they do need money for infrastructure because the roads in some areas didn’t have lines so people were driving in the middle

We lived there for 2 months last year. I loved the weather and the less populated regions of the country. My husband is a pilot and apparently his friends who are based down there right now say it’s on another lockdown. I wouldn’t go anytime soon because of covid. You would have nothing to do.

Unfortunately Puerto Rico has gotten bad over the years, there’s a lot of crime and it isn’t safe. It used to be great back in the day, if you stay within the hotel and the resorts you’re fine, but when you go out side into the cities, it is not safe, same thing like when you go to Jamaica, a lot of robbery, violence etc.

You’ll be fine but they drive like they’re the only ones on the road, and will literally drive inches away from your car faster than they should be lol. The cities aren’t that bad but when you get down towards yauco, it’s crazy on the mountains
