Tongue Tie?

Hi mommas! 
I currently have a 4 month old son and he has a tongue tie! Our pediatrician says that he doesn’t need it clipped only because he’s bottle feeding and she doesn’t seem worried about it. However, she did say it might affect speech later on but I can’t help but wonder why we wouldn’t do it now? I feel like it’d be more painful to wait until he’s older :( Of course I would never put him through a pointless procedure if he truly doesn’t need it but I feel like we haven’t received nearly enough information on it. No matter how much we ask, it’s always “ehh I’m not worried about it”. I just want to hear any other experiences??

Get the ties evaluated by a pediatric ent, pediatric dentist or pediatric SLP for the answer on if it should be revised now or can wait.

Our son was born with a lip tie, tongue tie, and check tie.  Being a teacher I am very good friends with several SLP’s and asked for their advice. We went to a pediatric dentist to get my son evaluated. At 3 weeks old they Lasered all his ties in less than 5 mins and we had to do some simple exercises at home and that was it. My friend (SLP) said to have it done now because you want to try to prevent a speech problem before it happens. I would definitely go get a second opinion it never hurts to ask. Good luck! I agree on seeing a specialist. Our daughter had her tongue / lip toes corrected by a pediatric dentist at 2 weeks. We then spent the next 4 weeks having to do painful stretches and rub on the wound to prevent it reattaching. Trying to do that with an older child would be terrible. One kid at our daycare had it done at a year old. No thank you. Plus, it takes however old they are to relearn to use their mouth. So our two week old took two weeks to relearn to eat. A four month old would take four months. The older the child gets, the longer it takes them to relearn to use the muscles.

I agree with the other ladies. Look into a pediatric ent. My son was born tongue tied his pediatrician clipped it in her office when he was 1 week old. He recovered just fine and was able to latch on to a bottle as well.

Yes definitely see an ent it is better to do when little then older. Had my son done and he was eating from bottle few hours later. My daughter had her done when 4 and she had hard time recovering
